Get Involved!

Now is the time to get involved in the work that God is doing in Africa.
He has called us to be difference makers and to reach out to those in need.
With God’s help, each of us can do something - no matter our age or our life circumstances.
Listed below are multiple ways for you or your club to become involved in The Call to Africa.
Become a Prayer Warrior
Orphans, widows, women, and children in Africa and around the world need your prayers as does the ministry of GEMS Girls' Clubs. Please join us in making a chorus of prayer!
Support and Expand Sister Clubs and Provide Training to Leaders in Zambia
More Sister Clubs in the US and Canada are needed before April of 2009 when the next training in Zambia will take place (to find out more about being a Sister Club, check out the Sister Club Booklet or fill out an application). Trained and motivated leaders are essential to the success of any ministry. Without initial and ongoing training, it will be unlikely that leaders in Zambia will receive the support, tools, and encouragement necessary to maintain a successful discipleship program. Support in any amount will help provide needed training to women desiring to become counselors and help the ministry to continue to grow and reach more girls with the love of Jesus Christ.
Establish the GEMS Service Center and Community Library in Zambia
In order to successfully continue to grow the GEMS ministry in Zambia, a center of operations – a Service Center – is needed. In the same way that the Service Center in Michigan provides a central meeting place from which activities that help grow and support the international ministry take place, a similar center is needed in Zambia. Through a series of divine appointments, God has made available a property that is perfectly suited for housing the Zambian GEMS Service Center. This property is also well suited for establishing a community library. As the literacy rates in the country continue to decline, a library with regular tutoring opportunities is desperately needed by children and adults. Support in any amount is needed to help purchase, retro-fit, and equip this dual-purposed facility.
Construct and Operate The Esther School
In Scripture, we clearly read that Esther was used by God “for such a time as this.” And The Esther School for orphan and under-resourced children is urgently needed in Zambia to help prepare vulnerable girls and boys to live their lives for God – present and future. The school will address the educational, practical, emotional, and spiritual needs of orphan and under-resourced girls and boys to prepare them to manage the difficult social and economic circumstances facing young people in this country. All subjects will be taught from a biblical worlddview. Developing skills in income generation, English literacy, money management, personal care and health, HIV/AIDS awareness, parenting, and Bible application will be a high priority. Support in any amount may be applied toward this fund.
Give a Gift - Bibles for GEMS Counselors and Girls in Zambia
Bibles are in great demand in Zambia. We strive to provide every counselor and every girl in club that is able to read with a hardback version of a NIV Bible. Download a decorative bookplate, cut it out, fill-in with your name as the gift-giver, and mail it along with your check in the amount of $12 to cover the cost of the Bible and shipping to Zambia.
Clean and Healthy
Next season, girls in Zambian clubs will be working on their Personal Care Badge through the Discovering How to Care for Myself Unit. One great way to encourage them is to provide each girl with her own Personal Care bag. Included in each bag is: a washcloth, hand towel, toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, and bar of soap. $2 for shipping must be included with each bag as well. Each set of personal care items should be placed in a decorated, quart-sized, freezer-style, zip-lock bag and received at the GEMS Service Center by March 1, 2009. Consider enclosing a photo of yourself and a brief note of encouragement using the downloadable gift card.
Sow Seeds - Plant a Garden in Zambia
The Horticulture Badge, found in the Discovering How to Care for God’s World Unit, in the African Badgebook, includes information about gardening as a means of supplying food for one’s family. You can provide food for families in Zambia by sending “seed money.” Every $7 you send will be used to purchase five different seed packets (shipping costs included) that can withstand drought conditions and match soil types and growing seasons in Africa. Consider enclosing a photo of yourself and a brief note of encouragement using the downloadable gift card. The vegetables from these gardens can be used to feed girls and their families and provide a small income when sold. Funds must be received at the GEMS Service Center by March 1, 2009.
Support the Children and Momma in The House that GEMS Built
While all of the children in The House that GEMS Built are currently sponsored, additional expenses related to their ongoing care and the upkeep of the house are needed. Support in any amount may be applied to The House that GEMS Built.
Thank you for responding to the Holy Spirit’s leading.
