This game quickly became a favorite among girls at camp. One hundred and fifty eight campers attended Get Connected! Camp 2007. Excitement was high as girls tumbled off the bus and out of cars. What did this week hold? they wondered.

The first night started off with chapel. Girls were just getting to know each other and the message that night was about connecting with friends. And connect they did! Girls quickly became friends and were soon inseparable.

Girls also learned other important messages while attending camp. Monday’s message focused on how to fight the culture’s lies about who they are and instead claim their identity as a daughter of the King. In the evening they were challenged to remain pure in their relationships and in life. Each girl had the opportunity to make a commitment and receive a key/heart charm symbolizing her commitment.

Connecting with girls around the world was the message on Wednesday. Each camper was given the photo of a girl from somewhere in the world. Each camper was asked to pray for her girl and learn more about her culture through books provided in a research center.

Campers had the opportunity to participate in a number of activities including high/low ropes, the zip line, learning about GEMS in Africa, canoeing, reflection time, and swimming.

By the end of the week the tears were many and the hugs were long. Many girls commented that they didn’t want to leave. They were ready for round two! GEMS thanks God for giving so many girls the opportunity to grow in their faith, make new friends, and learn to serve others. We pray each girl takes the life lessons she learned and applies them to her life. Thanks be to God for all the ‘connections’ girls made during the week of Get Connected! Camp.
